California climber falls to death in Glacier

WEST GLACIER, Mont. --?

Glacier National Park officials say a 21-year-old California man died after falling at least 60 feet from a mountain he was climbing.

Park officials said in a statement that rangers recovered the body of Matthew Needham of Simi Valley on Thursday near Grinnell Point in the northeastern area of the park.

Needham was climbing the mountain with two others when he fell in a steep, rocky area. All three climbers worked at the Many Glacier Hotel.

After receiving reports of the fall from a Glacier Park Boat Company employee and a group of hikers, rangers in a helicopter found Needham's body.

They used a 100-foot line to recovery the body.

Park officials say the death is under investigation.
